Lighting for Industry
Industrial lighting – legal regulations meet technical requirements
Industry is synonymous with large buildings, a wide variety of technical processes both indoors and outdoors, and a wide range of sometimes stringent requirements for all building services installations. This naturally includes lighting. The dimensions of many industrial plants in conjunction with clear rules and regulations on lighting equipment make lighting design a demanding task. Industrial lighting can be successfully implemented if the luminaires selected are effective and comply with all legal requirements.
Typical topics relating to industrial lighting requirements
Industrial lighting requirements are as diverse as the industrial companies themselves:
— Exterior surface lighting for car parks, storage areas and traffic zones
— Indoor area lighting for warehouses, production halls and other functional or circulation areas
— Targeted point and line lighting for plant and machinery
— Lighting of workplaces in accordance with regulations
— Implementation of safety and rescue concepts for emergencies

What is important in industrial lighting?
Many aspects of successful industrial lighting are congruent with other areas such as exhibitions, open spaces or transport facilities. However, the sum of the requirements and their characteristics are usually more complex and comprehensive. And the weighting of the individual topics is usually completely different in industrial construction. Although aesthetics also play a role in individual cases, functionality, technical and, last but not least, economic aspects usually weigh far more heavily. We are also happy to help you with special industrial lighting concepts, such as car park lighting or crane lighting.
Luminous range and power
Large surfaces and areas require powerful lighting – above all, high luminous intensity and thus a long range of the luminaires. This is the only way to keep the necessary areas free and at the same time sufficiently illuminated without having to use disturbing masts, suspensions or other technical devices for luminaire placement. Closely linked to this are the angle of illumination and light diffusion, as these parameters also clearly define the number of luminaires required per area.
High safety levels against lighting and thus operational failures
In industry, the potential stresses on the lighting technology used due to temperatures, dirt, dust and other influences are particularly high. Added to this is the need for a high level of safety, because failures can affect the entire operation from the very first second. Even short downtimes of production or storage can have an enormous technical and economic impact. Therefore, the most important aspect is to limit possible downtime risks and times to the unavoidable minimum and to optimally secure the technology.
Individual safety requirements for the lighting concept
The versatility of industry is also reflected in lighting requirements. Individual activities or conditions lead to individual requirements. These can be directed at both lighting performance and safety levels. Luminaires that are as versatile, powerful and safe as possible help to meet these requirements without the need for special designs.
Occupational safety and health – legal requirements for industrial lighting
Occupational safety and health serves to protect people. When it comes to lighting, natural light colour and minimum luminous intensity are particularly important. Since not every workplace can be supplied with natural light via windows or skylights, these minimum requirements need in most cases to be met in full or in part by artificial lighting, i.e. the lighting technology used.
Efficiency and profitability
Every company aims to make a profit. Besides high revenues, minimising expenses also plays a role. Although lighting seldom has high line items on the debit side, its usually permanent operation and the large number of luminaires required nevertheless mean that costs are a constant factor. Energy-saving technology reduces electricity consumption and thus costs. Day after day, often throughout the year.
Our contribution to functional industrial lighting
Hoffmeister sets an example in terms of performance and efficiency with high-performance industrial luminaires specially tailored to the requirements of industry. Supplemented by other lighting technology from our portfolio, we are able to meet all needs and fulfil the various requirements in an optimally coordinated manner.
High-intensity floodlights and suspended luminaires for indoor and outdoor use
A whole range of different luminaire series offer perfect conditions for use as industrial lighting. The Sill projectors 49, 02 and 14 are perfect for the outdoor illumination of facades and buildings. In this way, the company logo, industrial architecture or a particularly prestigious head building becomes the company’s figurehead. Light outputs of up to more than 30000 lumens in various light angles and light colours allow comprehensive light output with a high variance of light characteristics. Our plane projectors 48 and 150-154 complement the portfolio with products for outdoor and indoor use with comparable light output and light modulation. The 176 industrial luminaire is particularly strong in free-standing areas. Freely suspended, its light output of over 48000 lumens and wide beam angle allow perfect illumination of large areas without structural subdivision. The same task is performed outdoors by our Aerealflooter 177, which easily covers even large outdoor areas such as warehouses and handling areas.
Highest protection classes for safe industrial work
Protection classes up to IP65 combined with a high tolerance for high ambient temperatures make Hoffmeister industrial luminaires particularly resistant. Protection in accordance with current technical standards provides safety and allows all areas to be equipped in compliance with regulations.
LED technology for low power consumption with maximum output
The future belongs to industrial luminaires with LED technology. Energy-saving with maximum light output, they fit into sustainable operating concepts. That’s why Hoffmeister relies extensively on LEDs as the technology of the future and thus offers economical, durable and powerful products at the same time.
